Is this marathon a Boston Qualifier?

Yes! The marathon course is flat and fast, an ideal race for your Boston qualifier!

What if I sign up for one event and decide to switch?

Switching is completely fine! If you switch to a costlier event (“upgrade”), you will pay the difference between the entry fees of the two events. If you switch to a less expensive event (“downgrade”), there is no charge or refund.
For Upgrades:
Go to the event registration page and click on the event that you want to upgrade to.
Select the option showing the upgrade that you want.
Complete the upgrade registration online.

For Downgrades:
Go to the event registration page and click on the event that you want to downgrade to.
Select the option showing the downgrade that you want.
Complete the downgrade registration online.

After September 21st, event changes will need to be processed at the HELP TABLE at packet pickup.

Where do the 5K, Half Marathon and Marathon courses split?

The 5K course splits off at 3rd and Franklin Streets just past 2 miles. The Marathon course splits off at Washington and 17th Streets just past 12.4 miles.
If participants of the Marathon do not reach this split by 10:46 a.m. (keeping a 15-minute/mile pace), they will be directed onto the Half Marathon course, and they will be official finishers of the Half Marathon being scored and timed accordingly. (As an official finisher of the Half Marathon, the participant will still be eligible for the truck drawing.)

What food and drinks will be at the Finish Line?

The following items will be available at the Finish Line:
* Pretzels
* Granola Bars
* Bananas
* Snack Packs
* Water Bottles
* Gatorade (Blue)

What food and drinks will be at the water stops?

All water stops after the first one will have both water and Gatorade. Water stops near miles 6.7, 18.3, and 24.4 will also have Gu gel packets. Special thanks to White River Running Company for supplying the gel packets for the Mill Race Marathon and Half Marathon.

Will there be restrooms along the courses?

Portable restrooms are available along the courses as follows:
Half Marathon – at each of the 8 water stations along the course.
Marathon – at each of the 20 water stations along the course.

Can I pick up someone else’s race packet? Or can someone pick up my packet?

Yes, that is allowed. You or the person picking up yours will need to bring a copy of their photo ID and a note from them (i.e. an email) that states that you have permission to pick up their packet. At Packet Pickup, you will also need to sign a form stating that you picked up their race packet.

I am unable to participate. Can I get a refund?

We are sorry that you will not be able to join us for this year’s event. Per the refund policy entries are non-refundable. You do have the option of transferring your entry to another person by following the transfer process found in this FAQ.
If you are unable to participate due to pregnancy, injury, or military deployment, we offer deferrals to the 2025 event with appropriate documentation. Please submit either your doctor’s note stating injury/pregnancy or proof of deployment to info@millracemarathon.com by Friday, September 13, 2024. To remain consistent with the administration of this policy, deferrals do not extend to anyone besides the injured, pregnant, or deployed participant and we must receive the documentation by September 13, 2024. Deferred entries cannot extend past the following year.

Can I transfer my entry to another person?

Yes, you may transfer your entry to another person by following these processes:
1. Go to the event registration page and click on the event that you are registered in.
2. Select the option to transfer your entry.
3. Complete the online transfer process. You will get a 7-digit code to forward to the person whom you are transferring your entry to.
Transfers must be completed by both parties online no later than September 20th at 11:59 PM.
After September 20th
This can be handled at the Packet Pickup Help Table on Friday, September 27th. Please send an email to the person receiving your entry stating that you indeed want to transfer your entry to them. This email must be brought to Packet Pickup as proof of the transfer.
The person receiving the entry will need to go to the Help Table and (1) fill out an entry form, (2) sign the waiver, (3) pay the $5 transfer fee, and (4) show your email giving them the entry.

Does the Mill Race Marathon have a Pacer team?

Yes! Beast Pacing Team will be back this year to pace you through the Marathon and Half Marathon races.
The pace times are as follows:
Marathon – 3:35, 3:50, 4:05, 4:20, 4:35, 4:50, Sweeper (6:41)
Half Marathon – 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:45, 3:00, Sweeper (3:51)

Do you have a Lost and Found.

Yes – lost and found is located at Gear Check inside The Commons.

Do the student 5K entrants run with the rest of the 5K?

Yes, all 5K participants run together.

Where can I get a parking pass?

Parking passes will be handed out at the “Parking Pass” table located to the far right of the packet pickup tables at the Expo & Packet Pickup on Friday.

Is there a way to track runners as they make their way along the course?

Yes – click (here) to go to the Athlete Tracker web page where you can download the tracx app to follow your participant along the course.

Who benefits from the Mill Race Marathon?

The Mill Race Marathon benefits different organizations dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles in Columbus, IN. In our first eleven years, we have donated approximately $750,000 to various charities. Our 2024 goal is to donate $40,000 to the Columbus Park Foundation and Healthy Communities!

Free

Training

All walkers and runners are welcome to this free, 17-week training program! 
To ensure we train safely and effectively, a proven progressive mileage increase schedule will be used.

Classroom Sessions

Classroom sessions last around 30 minutes, followed by a group run/walk.

After week 8, classroom sessions are completed. Mill Race Training Group will join the Columbus Running Club runners every Saturday for training in long runs.

Mill Race Marathon - Anti-Doping policy (Adopted with permission from Monumental Marathon).

To be eligible for the overall award an athlete must:

Not be currently serving a suspension for use of a banned substance
Not have ever served a ban for use of performance-enhancing drugs
Not be represented by coaches and/or agents who have had 2 or more such suspensions by their athletes in the previous 4 years
Not be represented by coaches and/or agents who ever served a ban for the use of performance-enhancing drugs during their own athletic career
Provide proper documentation proving they are eligible for prize money (form W-9, W-8ECI or W-8BEN)
Consent to random drug testing according to the standards and procedures of USATF, USADA, and WADA
Not be currently serving a suspension for use of a banned substance
Not have ever served a ban for use of performance-enhancing drugs
Not be represented by coaches and/or agents who have had 2 or more such suspensions by their athletes in the previous 4 years
Not be represented by coaches and/or agents who ever served a ban for the use of performance-enhancing drugs during their own athletic career

Marathon

Awards

Overall Awards are determined by gun time. Age Group Awards are determined by chip time.

All cash prizes will be paid within two weeks of the event after all official results are confirmed and a review of the Road Race Management website “www.dopingsanctions.com” is made.

The Mill Race Marathon has a policy that prize money is only eligible to participants who are not currently serving a suspension for the use of a banned substance, nor have ever served a ban for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Participants winning an Overall Award will not also be eligible for an Age Group award.

Please Note: Awards for athletes age 19 and under are a nominal value item to protect the future high school and collegiate eligibility of the athlete.

Gift Certificates are provided by White River Running Company – located at 3142 N National Rd, Columbus, IN 47201.
Age Group division winners for all 19 & Under divisions in the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K will receive a merchandise prize of nominal value.
Marathon Age Group divisions start at 19 & Under, then are in 5-year increments from 20-24 up to 80 & Over.
Half Marathon Age Group divisions start with 15 & Under and 16-19.
5K Age Group divisions start with 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-15, and 16-19.

Gear

Check

Gear Check will be located at The Commons at 4th Street and Washington Street, which is one block due south of the starting corrals. Gear Check will open at 6:45 AM
Bags not claimed by 2:30 PM on race day will be held for two weeks, at which point any leftover bags will be given to charity. You will need your Race Bib to pick up your gear bag from Gear Check.
Please DO NOT put any valuables in your gear bag! Use this service for placing clothes to drop off before the event and to put back on after the event. The Mill Race Marathon organization is not responsible for lost or stolen bags or items.
Due to security reasons, we will not be able to check large items like backpacks. Please limit it to items like sweats, extra clothes, etc.
